Here's a detailed guide on how to apply for a ration card in Karnataka:

Step 1: Visit the Ahara Kar Portal

Step 2: Aadhaar Authentication

Aadhaar details are mandatory for all family members applying for the ration card. Follow these steps:

  • On the next page, select your preferred language: Kannada or English.
  • Provide your Aadhaar number and the mobile number registered with Aadhaar.
  • Click the "Go" button.
  • Agree to share Aadhaar details by selecting the Aadhaar consent option.

Choose one of the following methods for Aadhaar authentication:

  • OTP-Based Authentication:
    • An OTP will be sent to the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar.
    • Enter the OTP and captcha code to proceed.
  • Biometric Authentication: Use a biometric device to scan your fingerprint and verify.
  • Verify Aadhaar Details:
    • After successful authentication, details such as Name, Gender, Date of Birth, and Photo from Aadhaar will be displayed.
    • Confirm the displayed details to proceed.

Step 3: Adding Family Members

If applying for a family, repeat the Aadhaar authentication process for each member.

  • Adding Members: After successful Aadhaar verification, click the "Add" button to include the family member in the application.
  • Removing Members: To remove a family member, select the checkbox next to their name and click the "Delete/Add Again" button.

If a family member is already linked to another ration card, provide consent to remove them from the existing card.

Important:

If the Head of Family (HOF) is to be changed, assign a new HOF based on eligibility:

  • The eldest female member above 18 years must be selected as HOF.
  • If no eligible female member exists, the eldest male member will be assigned.

Select the address to be displayed on the ration card from the Aadhaar-linked details of a family member.

  • Based on the PIN code:
    • Urban Areas: Select the City, Ward Number, and Area from the dropdown.
    • Rural Areas: Select the Panchayat and Village.
  • Click Next Stage to proceed.

Step 5: Select Fair Price Shop (FPS)

  • For Non-Priority Household (NPHH) card types: The system automatically assigns the Fair Price Shop (FPS) based on your PIN code.
  • For Priority Household (PHH) card types: You can select your preferred FPS within the same taluk or city.

Step 6: Willingness to Draw Ration

Specify if you want to draw ration:

  • Select "Yes" if you intend to avail the ration.
  • Select "No" if you don’t wish to draw ration.
