UAN - Universal Account Number

The Universal Account Number (UAN) is a special 12-digit number given to every employee in the EPF scheme in India. It helps combine all the EPF accounts of an employee under different employers into one.

The main purpose of the UAN is to combine all the EPF accounts an employee has with different employers into one account. On this page, I will provide detailed information about UAN, member login and activation process, etc.

You can navigate all services related to UAN by clicking the above button.
A UAN provided by EPFO is mainly used to track PF balance and claim status.

Employers are required to enroll with the EPFO if they have 20 or more employees. If an employee comes with a UAN from a previous job, this number should be given to the new employer. For employees who are new to the workforce, employers need to create a UAN for them.

To generate a new UAN for an employee:

  • Log into the Employer's EPF Portal with your credentials.
  • Go to 'Register Individual' under the 'Member' tab.
  • Enter the employee's details, including Aadhaar, PAN, and bank information.
  • Confirm the information in the 'Approval' section.

Once approved, the EPFO will issue a new UAN for the employee, which the employer can link to their PF account.

If you work in the unorganized sector and want a UAN, you can register on the E-Shram portal to obtain your UAN card.
An unorganized worker is someone who works in the unorganized sector, such as a home-based, self-employed, or wage worker, and is not covered by ESIC or EPFO. The unorganized sector typically consists of small establishments employing fewer than 10 workers who do not fall under ESIC and EPFO regulations.
