What is a Job Card?

A Job Card under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) is a government-issued document provided to rural households in India.

This card entitles the holder to request employment under the scheme, guaranteeing at least 100 days of wage employment in a financial year to every household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work.

The Job Card contains details about the work done by the cardholder and the wages paid. It is a key tool for transparency and accountability in the implementation of the NREGA scheme.

💡
Government data indicates that the NREGA scheme has 14.37 crore active beneficiaries. As of November 30, 2023, it generated 221.60 crore person-days, up from 208.74 crore during the same period last year, according to Rural Development Minister Giriraj Singh.
