Online Application Process

To apply for a job card online, use the UMANG portal. Follow these simple steps below.

Step 1: Open UMANG

Step 2: Register or Log In

  • If new, register first, then log in with your mobile number, MPin, or OTP. If you're already registered, log in directly.

Step 3: Find MGNREGA

  • Use the search box to look up MGNREGA or select it from the Recently Used Services.

Step 4: Apply for Job Card

  • Choose “Apply For Job Card” from the options.

Step 5: Fill in General Details

  • Enter details like your father's or husband's name, address, state, block, Panchayat, caste, family head's name, and ration card number. Click “Next”.

Step 6: Enter Applicant Details

  • Provide your name, gender, age, disability status, mobile number, and Aadhaar card number. Upload a photo of yourself.

Step 7: Submit Application

  • Click “Apply For Job Card” to finish. You'll get a reference number. Your NREGA job card number will be provided once the card is ready.

Tracking Your Job Card Status

To check the status of your job card application, just follow these steps:

  • Put in your reference number and click “Track”.

Step 3: View Status

  • You'll see your job card status and can check the details.

If you wish to download your job card, simply click on the "Download Job Card" option. Then, you can download your job card by using either the reference number or job card number.

Offline Application Process

The application can be made on plain paper or a printed form provided by the GP. It must be submitted by any adult member of the household.

The application should include the names of all adult members of the household who are willing to work, along with details such as age, gender, SC/ST status, and bank or post office account number​(MGNREGA).

The application can also be submitted orally in some cases, with details recorded by the Gram Rozgar Sahayak (GRS) or Panchayat Secretary​

Verification

Once the application is received, the GP verifies:

  • Whether the household exists.
  • Whether the applicants are residents of the village.
  • Whether they are eligible adult members of the household.

After verification, the job card is issued within 15 days of the application. It is handed over to the household, typically in the presence of other residents to ensure transparency

New members of the household who become eligible can be added to the job card through a simple application process. This includes verification of documents like a birth certificate to prove eligibility

Eligibility Criteria

The NREGA scheme is for rural areas across all states, run by the central government. To get benefits, you need to:

  • Be an Indian citizen.
  • Be at least 18 years old when you apply.
  • Belong to a local household (apply through your local Gram Panchayat).
  • Be willing to do unskilled work.

Any rural household with adult members willing to perform unskilled manual work can apply for a job card under MGNREGA. The application for a job card is submitted to the local Gram Panchayat (GP).

Required Documents

  • Residence Proof: Such as a ration card or electricity bill.
  • Identity Proof for Adults (18–60 years): Aadhaar card or voter ID for each adult in the household.
  • Photos: Two passport-sized photos (optional, but recommended).
